What should educators know about the educator expense tax deduction?
Answer:
Eligible educators can deduct up to $250 in qualified expenses that were not reimbursed.
Educators who are eligible:
Teachers, instructors, counselors, principals, or aids AND
In kindergarten through 12th grade AND
Work at least 900 hours in a school during a school year AND
Work in a school that provides elementary or secondary education.
Deductible expenses include:
Professional development course fees
Books and supplies
Computer equipment, software, and services
Other equipment and materials used in the classroom
