Q&A of the Week August 19, 2021
Question:
Should I have an IRS online account?
Answer:
Yes. This is an easy way for taxpayers to see information about their federal tax account including:
- payment history
- amount you will be paid and the date you will receive payment
- balance for what you owe
- information from the most current tax return (as it was filed)
- economic impact payments
- address on file
- payment plan details
- digital copies of some IRS notices
Additionally, there is a new authorization feature that allows taxpayers to:
- specify who can represent them with the IRS
- determine who can see their tax records
- prove and electronically sign tax documents
